Debbie Goodman-Bhyat: MD
BA.LLB

Debbie entered the executive search sector in 1998, as a recruitment specialist in financial services and within one year had become one of the top billers in the industry.

In 2000, she established her own executive search firm and in 2004 re-branded the company into Jack Hammer Executive Headhunters. Today Jack Hammer is recognised as South Africa’s leading executive search firm operating in the corporate and financial services sector having reported 37% growth over the past year and 253% growth since inception.

Jack Hammer Executive Headhunters, with Debbie at its helm, has become a cornerstone of the South African headhunting industry, continually and vocally aiming to raise the bar in the local executive search industry.

Debbie’s unique style and vision may come from her somewhat unconventional background: Until 10 years ago, she was an award-winning choreographer and contemporary dance theatre performer producing acclaimed theatrical works with top dance companies as well as choreographing musicals and operas. This, whilst completing her LLB!

Between her hectic schedule as a mom and an entrepreneur, Debbie makes time to contribute to the development of society through sponsoring up-and-coming dance talent from disadvantaged backgrounds and through her Mezzanine Fund for the Arts. On the education and career development front, Debbie and the Jack Hammer team are integrally involved in TSiBA, a non-profit tertiary institution for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The latter project is part of her drive to ensure ongoing development of talented young professionals in South Africa.

Debbie’s newest passion is surfing – she is very keen, but seriously untalented at this sport!
