Jazzart,
South Africa’s pre-eminent contemporary dance company, has a 30 year
legacy in community training and dance education. This culminated in
the establishment of the Young Adult Training and Job Creation
programme which provides youth with dance performance, teaching and
academic training, as well as skills development that lead to
sustainable employment. Students come from primarily disadvantaged
socio-economic communities and marginalised backgrounds with a wide
variation in completed formal education. They engage in rigorous 3-year
curriculum, which is subsidized by limited funding acquired by Jazzart. JACK HAMMER
is an annual sponsor of the programme, which is a perfect example of a
relentless drive to get it right for South Africa’s marginalised youth.
