Bursary for High Fliers

The ‘Debbie Goodman Bursary for Excellence in the Arts’ is a bursary in the form of a monthly stipend to support young artists who demonstrate great talent and potential.

In 2006, the recipients of the award were two young black male dancers, Mziyanda Mancam and Nkosinathi Sangweni, both of whom are enrolled as dance students in the Jazzart Young Adult Training and Job Creation Programme.

Mzi (originally from East London) and Nathi (from Soweto) are exceptionally talented, with great potential to become professional dance theater performers, choreographers and teachers. They have both appeared in Jazzart Dance Theatre’s recent works, and have demonstrated the spark, magic, professional work ethic and attitude that make them worthy recipients of the bursary.
